Volunteers
The Philadelphia Folk Festival is run entirely by volunteers. Organized into about 30 committees, volunteers work during the Festival, but also sometimes beforehand and immediately after the Festival. In return for working the required hours (determined by each committee chairman), volunteers get a camping pass, two meals per day, and entrance to concerts and workshops.
Volunteers must be 18 years old, have transportation to the Festival site, and must be available to work all three days of the event.
Volunteers are members of the Philadelphia Folksong Society and pay a $25 fee to help defray the costs of food, camping and entertainment.

Volunteer FAQ
What are the benefits of volunteering?
You get free admission to the entire Festival and campground, two meals per day, a discount at the Society Sales Tent, and the opportunity to meet other people who share your interest in promoting and preserving Folk Music.
What is the cost to me?
We ask volunteers who are members of the Philadelphia Folksong Society to pay $25 to cover some of the expenses associated with the care and feeding of our volunteers. Volunteers who are not members are asked to pay $40 ($15 of which goes to purchase a Philadelphia Folksong Society Associate Membership). Chick here to see Membership information. How old do I need to be to volunteer?
Volunteers must be 18 years of age.
What are my commitments as a volunteer?
Depending on the committee, you will work 5-6 hours each day. Most committees begin shifts on Thursday and work through Sunday or Monday. Some committees begin their work months before the event and some the Sunday before Festival.
What will I be doing as a volunteer?
The majority of new volunteers are given jobs on the Camping, Parking, or Security Committees. If you have special skills, you may be placed on a committee where your skills will be used most effectively.
Can I be a volunteer if I'm not a member of the PFS?
Yes, we welcome volunteers whether they are PFS members or not. See "What is the cost to me?" for fees.
