Beginners Harmonica (ages 13 & above) will be held 6:30 to 7:45p.m. at the Folksong Society office, 7113 Emlen Street, Philadelphia, PA 19119.

Blues Harmonica (ages 13 & above) will be 8:00 to 9:15 p.m. following the beginners' class. Prior experience and the instructor's approval are required for the blues class.

The cost is $85 for Society members, $95 for nonmembers. A $6 charge for the instruction book is payable to Seth the first night of class. Students must bring a 10-hole diatonic key of C major harmonica such as the Hohner Special 20, Hohner Pro Harp or equivalent to the first class.

Elections for Society Officers
Elections for the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Folksong Society will be held at the May 18th monthly Meeting and Concert. There will be a reception one hour prior to the May meeting to talk to the nominees before you vote.

The election will be held during the meeting and Concert. The absentee ballots will also be counted at that time. The top 5 (five) will win Board seats for a three-year term and join the other ten Board members at the June meeting of the Board of Directors.

The Board Development Committee has announced the following slate:
Lewis Hipkins
Charlie Miller
Lester Smalley
Jack Coll
Tom Imms

Nominated from the floor at the April Meeting:
Ed Stevens
Donn Frank

Any full member as of the end of April 2008 may request an absentee ballot by contacting the Society office after April 14th. You will need to give your name and membership number. If you have a membership, which entitles you to two absentee ballots, both will be sent. One or both may be returned.

You will be mailed the candidate's biography sheet, a ballot, a ballot envelope, a return mail envelope and voting instructions.

If you vote by absentee ballot, you will not be allowed to vote in person on the evening of the election. Absentee ballots must be received in the Society office by the close of business on Friday May 16th, 2008.

in memory of
Barbara Smith-Siegel, a long time member of the Philadelphia Folksong Society, passed away last week. Barbara will be long remembered as an active participant, with her husband Bob Siegel, a long-time Festival chairman, in Society concerts, sings, and other events. Many will also cherish her hand-crafted glass jewelry sold for many years in the crafts area of the Festival. Barbara is survived by her children Leslie and Jennifer, and her grandchildren, Amelia and Olivia. Barbara was a good friend to the Society and Festival, and she will be missed by her many friends.
