"There are so many good acts in the campground at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, you really need to present more of them on the Main Stage!"
Throughout the years, many folks have shared this sentiment with our programming folks, staff, and Board members. Last year, for the first time, we put this claim to the test with our Unsung Heroes Campground Band Competition and found that they were right! Dozens of acts submitted and 9 competed to play the at the Festival. The winners, Philadelphia Jug Band and HogMaw, performed Friday on the Main Stage!
We are bringing back the Unsung Heroes Campground Band Competition, with juried performances on July 15 and July 20 in Philadelphia. This is not a battle of the bands! This is a juried competition with a panel of music industry professionals. Each act will be given 2 songs OR 10 minutes for the jury. Artists will be chosen based on their repertoire, stage presence, applicability to a folk music festival, and crowd response. Selected artists may bring fans, at no admission cost, to display their draw and crowd response.
All artists chosen to compete MUST have arrangements for camping at the Folk Festival.
All artists chosen to compete must be available for BOTH July 15 and July 20.
