Sponsored by the Philadelphia Folksong Society, The Spring Thing is a magical get-away weekend filled with song, dance, crafts and fun. Last year we celebrated our 35th Anniversary! YOU, the participant, have made The Spring Thing the most well loved and popular weekend of its kind. Where else can you build your own Wash Tub Bass - participate in a bluegrass jam with Roger, Hal and Manny - Create magnificent jewelry with Mara and Sandy - tye dye a shirt or your pajamas with Sharon - Participate in workshops singing Gospel songs, Feminist Songs, Peace Songs, Traditional Irish Songs with Jack & Brian, Songs of Freedom and Struggle, Children's Songs, Labor Songs, Blues, Zipper Songs, Songs of Phil Ochs with Sonny, Rounds with the Palleys, 60's Folk with the Fuhrs, old timey jams - sing in the choir - Autoharp lessons with Drew - Doo Wop til you drop - have your face and body painted by Jane and SueFoo - Learn to Juggle - Do Gilbert and Sullivan with Howard - Play basketball, soccer, tennis - go swimming and boating- Make a campfire - Perform on the open stage and/or the Kid's Concert - or just RELAX and enjoy the surroundings? Where else, but The Spring Thing!

The Spring Thing is ALWAYS Memorial Day Weekend - You let us know how important it was to keep it that weekend. A few years ago we moved to Camp Canadensis in Canadensis, PA - truly an adventure in luxury. The Spring Thing is wonderful musical beginning to the summer and the festival season. Accommodations are dormitory style with 10-20 in a cabin. All cabins have private stall showers and bathrooms, and the dining room has outdoor decks overlooking the sandy beach of Lake Lenape. All meals are included throughout the weekend.

There is dancing all day long to live music with instruction - squares, international, hambo, clogging, contra, Irish, Israeli, Tango - you name it - we do it. There is also an International Folk Dance Party on Friday night (including instruction). There are instrumental workshops. You bring your guitar, banjo, fiddle, dulcimer, mandolin, autoharp, dancing feet and singing voices, your family and your friends. We teach, we play, we jam, we have way too much fun! We also have craft workshops - for Kids and Adults too. We bring the supplies, you bring the desire.

REMEMBER -THE SPRING THING EMPHASIZES PARTICIPATION!!!

Spring Thing participants create and run all of the workahops.  Have a great idea - sign up to host a workshop when registering for Spring Thing.  Everyone volunteers at least one hour of their time driving golf cart taxis, registration helpers or assiting workshop hosts (candle making, tie dye, jewelry making, etc..  This is what allows us to keep such a fantastic weekend at such reasonable prices
